At Winestia, we are particularly proud to give you access to these rare Burgundy gems, from an estate that cultivates its vines according to the principles of sustainable viticulture and practices manual harvesting.
Sustainable Viticulture: A Way of Life and Winemaking!
Domaine Pierre Brazey places utmost importance on respecting its terroirs. The estate cultivates its 8 hectares of vines, located south of the Côte de Beaune, according to the principles of sustainable viticulture (lutte raisonnée). This holistic approach translates into specific vineyard practices. Notably, the relatively old age of the vines, averaging 40 to 80 years, is a factor in the concentration and complexity of the aromas. Moreover, the estate favors manual harvesting, allowing for rigorous selection of grapes at optimal ripeness.
As for grape varieties, Domaine Pierre Brazey focuses mainly on Burgundy’s emblematic varieties, with a majority production of Pinot Noir (90%) for its red wines and Chardonnay for its whites. This sustainable approach, combined with traditional winemaking methods and careful aging in oak barrels, is essential for the wines to fully express the typicity and authenticity of each terroir.
Sustainable Viticulture: A Responsible Approach
Sustainable viticulture, of which lutte raisonnée is a part, aims to optimize production while respecting the environment.
It is characterized by:
- Moderate use of plant protection products, only when necessary.
- Precise and ongoing observation of the vineyard to assess actual risks.
- Use of pesticides with lower ecological impact, respecting intervention thresholds.
- Preservation of natural enemies of pests.
- A holistic approach to vineyard management to enhance positive environmental impacts.
This method significantly reduces the use of synthetic products compared to conventional viticulture and is considered an intermediate step between conventional and organic viticulture.
Lutte raisonnée does not completely exclude the use of chemical products—unlike organic viticulture—but aims to limit their use as much as possible. This approach is officially recognized in France, although there is no specific certification.
By adopting this method, Domaine Pierre Brazey demonstrates its commitment every day to more environmentally friendly viticulture, while maintaining the quality and authenticity of its wines.
